Mae Van Gent is a Dutch singer-songwriter with a blues- and jazz style who started her career in the theater.
Born in Amersfoort as Mirte van Gent in 1980, her interest in music started with musicals. Mae completed the MusicAllFactory in Tilburg and was part of the cabaret group Van Zolder.
Mae started writing her own songs during the time she was part of Creatifs (an artist development program) and toured for more than a year throughout the Netherlands. Eventually, Mae decided to move to Amsterdam and formed a cabaret group called Padap. With this group Mae performed at the Wilhelmina Huiskamerfestival in 2015.
In 2017, Mae attended the international Keep an Eye Summer Jazz week at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (vocal jazz).
With her own show ‘Ongemak is het nieuwe roze’ (Discomfort is the new pink) Mae performed on stage in 2019-2020.
